Peace Begins At Home

Introduction

Our actions today as parents (our parenting styles and methods we use) influence not only our current parent-child relationships; they also influence the whole of the future lives of our children, their future relationships in life and our future relationships with our children.

Sometimes, even slight changes in parenting styles and techniques may yield big improvements in those relationships.

  • Do you want more closeness and better communications in your family?
  • Do you want less stress, more enjoyment and more free time?
  • Have you ever wondered (or asked your child,) “What were you thinking!!!”?

Make the decision today to take action...

Our fast paced parenting classes are designed to make it easy and fun for you to learn effective, practical, and loving skills and techniques that will motivate and discipline your children without punishment and rewards-based (carrot and stick) parenting tools.

Five weekly classes are held for a total of 15 hours of instructor lead classroom instruction. The days between each weekly session allow you to  practice and master the concepts. Weekly goals are set by each participant. Challenges and successes are shared in a warm supportive environment.

You can have the kind of relationship with your children you have dreamed of, and you can help them develop skills to become loving, motivated and successful adults.

Although our classes will keep you entertained, they are full of many helpful parenting tips and a wealth of usable and useful information.

All of this gives you better understanding and supports more loving and enriched relationships between you (parents, grandparents, childcare workers and anyone else who relates to children) and your children (from birth through adulthood.).

These relationships are often the single most important factor in your child’s development and may directly effect your own day-to-day feeling of well being.

At Sensible Parenting™, our instructors have more than 10 years experience in providing advanced parent education; parenting classes, parenting workshops, lectures on parenting issues, and private coaching.

If you are a childcare worker looking for in-service training credits, you may be able to earn up to 15 hours of classroom credit for these effective, loving and practical parenting techniques, skills, and tips...that really work.

Parenting Challenges

For most of us, parenting is O.J.T. (On the Job Training). If we had great parents for role models, we may try to imitate them. If we took part in raising our younger siblings, we may have even had a taste of “parenting.”

However, some of us didn't’t have great role models or siblings to practice upon. Even those of us who had great parents, and helped in the raising of our siblings, discover that every child is unique, with unique needs. Our children may need different things from us as parents, than we did (years ago) when we were learning about parenting from our parents.

At Sensible Parenting, our parenting courses provide practical, effective, loving techniques and skills to reduce the disparity between your good intentions and goals as parents, and the gaps that may exist in the actual developmental accomplishments of your children.

We do not believe there are bad children, or bad parents. We do believe that some children have unique needs for which parents (and others whom interact in our children's lives) may not have the tools, techniques and skills to address most effectively.

We believe that all misbehavior is simply your child trying to communicate something to you. So we teach you skills to help you identify your child’s mistaken goals and beliefs about life, so that you can take appropriate corrective actions.

What We Teach

Our parenting classes teach new/additional parenting skills and techniques that will help you interact in an even more supportive way to help your children address their developmental challenges from infancy to young adult.

Our parenting courses provide you with skills for improving communications and increasing closeness between you and your child and within your family as a whole. We teach methods and techniques to help your child learn responsibility, independence, respect for self and others and to have healthy self-esteem. MORE->>

Our fast paced parenting classes are designed to make it easy and fun for you to learn effective, practical, and loving techniques that will motivate and discipline your children without punishment and rewards-based (carrot and stick) parenting tools. In class you will see examples and participate in exercises to help you understand and implement the new tools and techniques.

We provide the “Redirecting Children's Behavior™ (RCB™)" parenting courses and 25 additional workshops that are focused upon family life and child developmental needs. The RCB course is strongly influenced by the works of Rudolf Dreikurs, MD. , co-author of the highly acclaimed books "Children: The Challenge", and “Discipline without Tears”, and author of “The Challenge of Parenthood.” (These are wonderful resources for parents with children of any age or developmental level.)

You will learn new parenting skills and techniques:

  1. Create more closeness and better communications within your family!

  2. Have more confidence as a parent, enjoy less stress, and have more fun with your children

  3. Learn what your children are thinking when they misbehave, and how to redirect misbehavior in an effective and loving way.

  4. Have more free time for yourself!

You will get this in just five three hour sessions (one three hour session each week) when you attend the Sensible Parenting RCB course! (Objectives By Week)

After the first week, at the beginning of each class we review and discuss your experiences and answer any questions you have from implementing the new techniques at home over the previous week. Then we help you fine tune your new skills.

Ever have one of those days when all you do is nag your kids? Ever have one of those weeks? What about one of those months? Are you looking down the road toward a lifetime of unproductive nagging? Sometimes it seemed like I was, and not knowing what to do but knowing for sure that our family — my husband and two daughters, ages 8 and 11 — needed a change was one of the reasons I recently found myself in a five-week course called “Redirecting Children’s Behavior” (RCB)...

Based on the 1964 classic Children: the Challenge by Rudolf Dreikurs (Plume), RCB was created by educator Kathryn Kvols in order to give Dreikurs’ theories practical application. Central to the course is the basic assumption that children misbehave because they are trying to tell us something..

Taking the RCB course helped me to see my children in a light of acceptance and love without conditions, and to encourage rather than discourage them. I know that the example I set for them now is the first step toward making the wider world a better place...
